My current work is based upon
concepts that investigate psychological disorders. Literary sources such as The
Yellow Wallpaper, written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and The Insanity of Mary
Gerard, written by Laniey Robertson, as well as an interest in those who live
with disorders and how they are perceived, are driving forces in my
studies.
Merging architectural elements
with my process, I attempt to visually capture and understand the disorder(s)
that are specific in their effects and manifestations of each person.
A
second vein of work highlights my thinking and processes to concepts which
relate the human body to landscape through interconnected aspects such as
disorders, growth and healing. I attempt to visually capture figurative qualities,
often seen as unnatural or unwelcome, that result from time or self infliction.
Understanding and acceptance of these qualities can happen through the comparison
to our surrounding landscape.
Through
two-dimensional materials and processes I illustrate numerous perceptions of
the physical and psychological body.
